Sunidhi Chauhan performing in Meri Awaz Suno Mega Finals 1996-First Round
Annu Kapoor introducing the judges and the first round performances by Sunidhi and myself
After a long gap, I am back with some nostalgic and rare video footages; the introduction of judges and the first round of "Meri Awaz Suno" 1996 which was the turning point in my life and those winning moments! I had been for long planning to get the videos out from the fungus infected VHS tapes and finally managed to clean and transfer the tapes to digital format. This has been a long standing demand from my ardent fans. Many of those from the younger generation would not have seen the so called "first reality show" on singing talent hunt. When I searched "YouTube", I was not able to find any footage of Meri Awaz Suno, and so decided to do it myself. For those who have seen it in 1996, it would be wonderful and nostalgic again, to watch the 12 year old Sunidhi singing "Tu Chanda Mai Chandni" in front of one of the greatest living legends in music, of our times....Lata Mangeshkar! The video also reminds us the story of unkept tall promises....promises that even today are made to the amazingly talented winners of our reality shows which are made just not to be kept! It's been 12 long years after "Meri Awaz Suno"....The journey has been long from then to now.....
The winning moments!

reality shows used to be so "real"
now all seems so rigged if not stupid! :)
Saw these videos in the morning, while I was getting ready to go to work.
Old is gold and marvellous.

I wish all the Malayalam TV channels and those well established musicians all the very best in their efforts to ‘discover’ that hidden talent year after year! I would also wish that any of them reading this, give me an opportunity to participate. I sing average, but have a good wardrobe and have several fancy dress wins to my credit. I can also shake my arms and limbs vigorously, ensuring you thousands of sms’ which would tickle your bank accounts.
Oh dear media, make me a star!
am on bended knees at your doorsteps,
am on folded hands before you!
Oh dear media, make me a star
Make me a rockstar!
Sorry Pradipettan, my tounge is in cheek!
Thank you for putting up that wonderful moment which did the Malayali proud:-)
When I see the agony of kids being eliminated after a round in the present day loony reality shows, I wonder how you must have felt on being ‘eliminated’ after your victory in a classy national programme. When lives get cheaper and living gets expensive, most promises, as you say, are unkept. People like Sandip are an exception. If you had chosen to appoint a ‘manager’ and set out to make it in the industry by feeding biscuits to the concerned as and when required, perhaps no one could have stopped you. When economy rules the world, what is right may not be a popular choice and hence it takes a lot to live with dignity. And may I say its been excellent knowing a person who does just that.
Sincerely,
Balu
Talent can be never kept hidden one day it will come out .... the smell of flowers cannot be hidden the real bees will come for the honey.. Great Pradipji.
Thanks a lot for sharing this. For those of us who were introduced to reality television through this show, this was a trip down the memory lane.
Pradip ...I used to watch this program and remember watching you perform...but then relocated here.
Thanks for sharing this and I guess it takes more than good singing to perform in front of stalwarts like Lataji and Mann dey...it takes nerves of steel to deliver in front of audiences of these kind :-)
hearty moment for me to watch this video. thanks a million for uploading this from your VHS.
annu kapoor probably unknowningly, confidently, announced HMV and Yash's offers.

Pradip,
Thank you for sharing this video. We are all proud of you for winning the first ever reality show in India. I truly understand your concerns about the unkept promises. However, there are thousands of people who still remember you and your songs, especially the unforgettable masterpieces of Yesudas.
