Yaaroon Dosti..Amazing K.K at his Best!

Krishna Kumar Menon or K.K. (as he is popularly known as) was born on August 23, 1970. This Delhi-based singer came to Mumbai some years ago in search for his career and finally, he got a call to sing a one-minute jingle for singer Leslie Lewis for UTV which kick started his career. He started singing at the age of two and was a part of his college rock band. He has sung over 3500 jingles including Monte Carlo, TVS Scooty, Amul, Britannia and Pepsi's Yeh Dil Maange More in a span of four years. His dream to sing for a Bollywood movie materialized when Vishal Bharadwaj asked him to sing "Chod Aaye Hum" in Gulzar's Maachis (1996). But what catapulted him into the big league was the wildly popular "Tadap Tadap" in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). He still speaks in chaste Malayalam, remembers the sights and sounds of downtown Kerala and believes the best way to draw inspiration for emotions is to look at the poverty and people around us.
Very few know that this son of Kerala who is now "Sharukh Khan's" Voice is from Thrissur! In fact most Malayalees do not even know that he is a Malayalee and sadly has been ignored by the Malayalee media. He also has numerous hits in Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu. His recent song "Aankhon Mai Teri" from O.S.O.M the Sharukh starrer is already a chart buster now!
This is one of his best songs from his album Pal and which appeard in the Film Rockford.

Thumbikkinnaram....Another feather on Deepak Dev's cap!

The songs from the film Naran were super hits. But alas....the best song of the album from Naran was sadly not considered fit to find a place in the film in the end! Nevertheless this song is a beauty and it still managed to find place in the hearts of thousands of music lovers across the globe. I am proud to say that my dear friend and playback singer "Gayatri" made this song immortal along with none other than Ganagandharvan K.J Yesudas. This easily is one of Gayu's best songs ever! And I do not have words to describe the way this song has been woven intricately by Deepak. Though it does remind one of the "Jatin Lalit" classic, "Pehla Nasha" especially in the interludes, it is in a class of its own as seldom do u find such beautiful songs in Malayalam nowadays. I have taken the liberty of singing this song in my own way.
Song: Thumbikkinnaram

Original Singers: Gayatri & Yesudas

Maula Mere-Anwar.....Roopkumar Rathod at his best....

When Sreenivasan Jain of NDTV asked A.R Rahman on which were the songs that he liked in the recent times apart from his own he singled out "Maula Mere" from "Anwar". Maybe the song does carry a Rahman touch to it in the rhythm arrangement, melody and overall feel. In fact it could easily be mistaken for an A.R.R number! This beautiful song was created by "Mithoon" a new comer in Bollywood. Anwar has other melodious numbers tuned by "Pankaj Awasthi". But "Maula Mere" sure stirs your soul somewhere! The song has been rendered by "Roop Kumar Rathod" another favourite singer from the A.R.R camp. Roopkumar is better known as the brother of Vinod Kumar Rathod (Playback Singer) and music director Shravan Kumar Rathod (Nadeem-Shravan fame). He has a mellifluous voice deep rooted in classical music which he knows to use effectively. He has been silently here in Bollywood since the 90's but off late has finally got due recognition for his talent and hard work. He is also an accomplished Ghazal Singer, an amazing Tabla player and a music director! His wife "Sonali Rathod" too is an equally good Ghazal Singer.

Song: Maula Mere
Film: Anwar (2006)
Music: Mithoon
Original Singer: Roop Kumar Rathod
Lyrics: Syed Qadri
