Sunayana:Yesudas-Ravindra Jain Magic!

Sunayana was made by Rajashree productions in 1979. It was based on Charlie Chaplin's City Lights. The film had some of the most unforgettable songs of Bollywood tuned by Ravindra Jain brought to life in the Golden voice of Yesudas. The Yesudas-Ravindra Jain magic is ample proof to the fact that language, accent etc. hold no place in the heart of millions of music lovers even in the hindi speaking region! It's only due to the personal likes or dislikes of some influential people in the industry that the music loving masses are deprieved of real good music at all times. A good voice, good music and meaningful lyrics will always find good listeners at all times. I present the song Sunayna from this movie.

Mitwa-KANK-Shanker Ehsaan Loy

Rhythm, Vibe and Sound are what describe the Trio of Shanker Ehsaan and Loy in Bollywood. They have been regularly churning out hits one after another since a very long time. After the trio was formed there has been no looking back. They have the best production houses of Bollywood backing them. The latest in the bandwagon of hits is the music of Salame Ishq. All their songs are marked by melody. The "SEL touch" is evident in all their creations. Having the mercurial singer Shanker has been the main strenght of this trio. His vocal range and creative abilities have been always evident in all the songs he has sung. The film KANK (Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna) was such a hit in 2006. I present the song "Mitwa" which was selected as the most popular song of 2006 by NDTV recently in an opinion poll. This song moves on the same mood as "Har Ghadi" from "Kal Ho Na Ho". The only difference is the raw, rustic, powerful voice of Shafqat Amanat Ali. This was avery tough song to sing but was quite enjoyable as it was a new challenge to sing continuously in the higher octaves which is very uncommon in malayalam cine music. This song also shows the "paki sound" or the "sufi sound" that is quite popular among music lovers in the north and has become the current trend in Bollywood. I also would like to point out the small similarities to the carnatic music style of using "gamakas" at places such as "mera man yeh bata de tu" ...maybe the shanker effect!

Beladingalaagi Baa-My First Kannada Song Post

Dr. Rajkumar who was referred to as Annavru (big brother) by millions of his fans, acted in more than 200 movies over 50 years in Kannada. Most of his movies became great epic films in Kannada film industry. He was also a well-known playback singer. He also has won the National Award for the song "Naadamaya" from the movie Jeevana Chaitra. Rajkumar however, did not become a full fledged singer until his hugely popular song Yare Koogadali from the movie Sampathige Sawal. Prior to his singing in Sampathige Sawal, Rajkumar's songs were sung by Dr. P B Shrinivas. Blessed with a good voice which was laden in bhaava he excelled in singing all types of songs from romantic to heavily classical. After Yare Koogadali he sang for most of his movies and for many private albums which were mainly devotional albums. His song renditions would range from pure classical to disco and fast numbers to pathos.
Here I present a beautiful song Beladingalaagi Baa which clearly showas how well trained he was in carnatic music too! I am extremely thankful to my ORKUT friend Rama Iyer who took the pains to send the original song, the karaoke and the lyrics. I also appreciate her song selection. What a beautiful song it is! She also helped me with the pronounciation. This is also my first attempt at singing a Kannada song!
