Man Ki Lagan-Paap-The Nusrat Legacy Lives On!

Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is a singer in the Qawwali style native to Pakistan and India. Son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan and nephew of the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat took over Ustad Nusrat's Qawwali party after his death in 1997, as Nusrat had no sons of his own. Nusrat had taken him under his wing, and trained him in classical music and Qawwali since a very early age. Rahat began performing alongside Nusrat at the age of 10; he can be seen in numerous earlier videos of Nusrat. His voice is high-pitched unlike the booming husky voice of Nusrat. His first solo album Janasheen was a great hit, but he has somewhat faltered since then. Being Nusrat's nephew, expectations of him were amazingly high. He also sang for Indian films. His song "Jiya Dhadhak Dhadhak Jaye", for Mahesh Bhatt's movie "Kalyug", became very popular.
Here I present another very high pitched but very melodious song "Man Ki Lagan" from the very popular film "Paap" that was released in 2004. The craze for paki singers continues in bollywood. I believe that if a singer has the talent, dedication and the intense wish to do things differently a basic training in any form of classical music be it hindustani or carnatic would enable him/her to sing any kind of song with a little help. This song has been one of my most favorite songs as it it is not only simple but strikes you right in the heart like a dagger! And mind you...this does not have any loud background music, just the bare live kind of interludes on the guitar and harmonium.
I also have added the video of the song which was highly popular.

Just heard your rendition "Man ki lagan" -(fresh from the oven??). The obvious challenge in singing this song is the same scale that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has sung in. And you have done quite effortlessly. Hats off to you!
I could be wrong but
shouldnt it have been "jaise man mein hiran " instead of jaise band mein hiran" that you sang? The background score in your recording seemed much lighter and feeble compared to original- thought it could have been more powerful..your thoughts?

Thanks anand...It is not man(mind)...it is indeed ban (forest)
hiran means deer...
The backing track was obtained from the net..and was a compressed one..so the quality was not that superb.. okie though after some EQ tweaks.....Will change it as soon as I get a better karaoke track..

pradeepetta am here for the first time and i am floored by the precision in your singing. cannot find a fault anywhere.think your voice is way ahead of rahat in melody and clarity. rahat has a rough voice and shaky in the lower notes like mere dil ka jahan, but your voice is sweet powerful and very crisp in the lower notes too.makes that special.keep blogging.

I have heard this many a times before, meaning I could easily point out a flaw if it happened. But you have rendered it perfectly fit to the original and your voice is more beautiful than the original voice. (No offense meant to Rahat though). Great going Pradipettaa!

I agree with all the above comments (ofcourse , except the comment from the anonymous) and I second Sreejith's comment. You are being so modest here... I can say 100% confidently that your version is better than the original...

Since you have performed so exceptionally well in this song, I guess it should be relatively easy for you to sing "Naina tag lenge" by Rahat. If poss, please sing this sometime. A humble request.
