Introducing the Genius of Philip V Francis

It is a cruel reality that most of the times popularity is the only criterion by which we raise people to greatness! In this commotion some amazing personalities do not get their due however talented they might be. But these people find greatness in our hearts by the quality of work they do. Such a personality is my dearest friend Philip V Francis who is a true genius. Almost all the real musicians in Kerala know him. There are no words to describe him! He is an Ustad on the Tabla and is the disciple of the Tabla Mestro Ustad Fayaz Khan, sings Ghazals with uncanny ability, plays the Guitar, Harmonium, started his musical career as a Congo player, is an amazing artist who creates magic on the drawing canvas....well the list goes on. He leads the Choir in his church, was the Ambassador of music nominated by ICCR, Govt. of India, in Guyana, West Indies, teaching Tabla there and what not. When it comes to composing he believes in the old school of music using original acoustic instruments for almost all his songs. He was the arranger for my song "Porumo En Shyama Meghame" too in the past. The song I present here is a marvel of a song composed by Philip and sung by another amazing singer "Manisha". I would specially like to mention the sheer brilliance, emotion and ease with which she has rendered this song! She now works as an announcer in Dubai in a leading F.M Radio channel. This song is very close to my heart and makes me cry whenever I hear it, due to the music, singing, soul stirring simple lyrics, sheer devotional quality and heavenly heights to which it takes you. The two differently tuned charanams, the chord progressions and violin counters used in this song equal that of any great composer and the real violin ensemble used in this song creates sheer magic in today’s world of electronic music cacophony! A song of a lifetime from a gem of a person!

It has been a great pleasure meeting such a talented duo here at pradeepji's home! The simplicity and elegance of the composition is remarkable and un-equaled, and the whole experience was like watching a ballet or a figure skating event up close. Hats off to the Creator and the executor.

I feel that the composition is the key factor which drives u in this. Manisha has sung it so beautifully, with the emotions blending with the music and the lyrics. The soothing curves and whirl's of the music takes the listener to a new heights of bliss

Manisha has shown a level that many would love to achieve.. Both clock high on the talent scale for sure, and I would love to hear more from you guys!

Pradipji, Thanks a lot for the introduction..

Pradip thank you for introducing such a talent. People who can play many instruments always amaze me. Philip…it’s a treat to listen to this composition. The song is beautiful, voice is amazing…Maneesha’s voice is so mellifluous that even hitting high notes it does not sound shrill..and with ease she hits the notes..you two are a wonderful concoction.
Pradip keep posting more and more….
Swati.

Prayer ..Does it need a language ?
Music... Does it need a language ?
Love... does it need a language ?

I think not. What francis has proved is just that. MAnisha sounds like a beautiful synthesis of Sujatha and Chitra. Her base in the voice reminds me of Sujatha. And high notes of Chitra.

I have not had time to think of music at all in the past weeks. And when I heard this song, I did not have to 'think of music'..just experience the divinity in rendition.

My warm wishes, salutations and welcome to these wonderful latent talents.

Above all of it, a very humble and simple person he is! No wonder how you two became friends. :-)

I hope Philippettan will soon start an audioblog with his ghazals.

Manisha - I remember her singing in the Ganamela stages with Muvattupuzha Angel Voice orchestra, if I'm right.

Dear Sir,

I listened to the song composed by Philip and sung by Manisha. Its very nice. My personal congrats to you for showing the guts in introducing others in your own blog, a trend which i think is not common in today's world of competition, even in the area of music.

Yours Sincerely

When Bhakthi is present the simplest lyrics reveals the path to ultimate bliss...That is what I can say about these two talents you introduced. Recognition is something really negligible in front of her soulful rendering of his praise for the LORD. No words to explain how music plays wonders on us !!!

Hi Pradip,

Truly brilliant!
The song really moved me.

Another song which moves one to tears is Ramakatha, the raga is very soulful and Das-ettan's rendition and Lal's emotion on screen make it so intense.

I hope you'd have heard some devotional albums by Stephen Devassy. He's really good too, and like you opine, not yet that popular.

Expecting more such posts from you!

Regards
sRi
