Swasathin Thalam-Vintage Illayaraja!

There would not be a single soul in the world that would not have experienced the real pangs of Love. When love strikes it strikes hard and leaves you blind and bruised very often! The song which I have presented here attracted me so much for its romantic aura and it carries the passion of love to its fullest. I desperately wanted to sing it from the very first time I heard it. The song and the scene of the motorcycle rides(in the film) would take many of us to those vintage old romantic times we might have had {now, do not get any wild ideas. I am not suggesting anything here:-)}. I.R scores once again in this beautiful romantic song from Achuvinte Amma. Vidyu (Virginia U.S.A) has rendered the song endearingly with all its emotion and expression intact! Mixing the song was a challenge as so many effects have been used for the voices in the original song. I have given my best shot here.
I am putting up two versions as per feedback already received. This is just to show how such effects change the overall effect of the song completely for the better or the worse :-)
It's for the listner to judge!
1) With Doubling effect as in the original song
2) Without Doubling effect (My Version) for those who would like to hear the clear voices!

Very Classy..Lots of feel. Nice job.
I remember the IR version where he shows how the song as it is being composed with a harmonium and how it turns out in the end with full orchestration. Loved it.
Although very close to the original I don't particularly enjoy the dual voice/chorusy effect.

Mux,
mee too do not like that effect in the original song. I believe the original would have been a lot better if the true voices of Yesudas and manjari, sans the chorus/dual voice and overdose of exciter effect and whisper could have been avoided. And I had a hard time trying to replicate it too! If you hear the original Manjari's words are actually drowned in the effect and you cannot pick out the words. So I have not tried to totally use these effects to the same extend as the original. Yesudas generally does not like his voice put in the compressor and exciter. He hates such things and likes the true natural voice to be projected with just a bit of reverb/echo.Has heard him say this many times!

Extremely well done although I am not sure if it's the double voicing/whispers which made me feel like the voice had a metallic effect or is it??

But overall, think I really enjoyed listening to it (-:

Wow! Tht was really awesome work. Is this a cover version? This ought to be the original. The original seems pale compared to the mixing quality of this.Liked the version with voice doubling.Perfect levels, blending of voice and background and clarity of each word. How the hell did you do with a karaoke track? Pradipji, in my opinion whether u sing in films or not for me you are now the best singer in Kerala who sings almost every type, every language with so much authority. And you have a great voice unmatched by any singer of the new generation.

Manjari is a very good singer and a pet of Ilaiyaraja. She gets chances to sing in his concerts also. the orchestration is vintage IR with unpredictable chord changes and the tune is very good too. I liked the rendition without any of the voice effects better since I could concentrate moe on the words. Pradip - your emotions are very nice. Vidyu - nicely rendered. Keep it up you both.

I like the version without dubbing effects. When the singers have good voices, then it is better to leave it as it is. My humble opionion...

Pradip-

Came here from Vidyu's blog.
Even though I didn't understand the language, but loved the music+rendition. Awesome voices, nice flow and emotions. I enjoyed the 'with effects' version better. Pradip, your voice definitely resembles KJ YesudasJi's. If you have the track, can you YesudasJi's "Jaanam...Jaanam, Tera Mera Pyar Naya Hai" from Saawan Ko Aane Do? Also, you and Vidyu can also duet "Jab Deep Jwale" from Chitchor.

I am not a south Indian ...so I never heard the original song. But I don't think I need to ...This is the best duet I have heard in ages. Vidyu I heard you sing first time and I could not wait to listen to other songs in your blog. You have a very delicate and beautiful voice.

Pradip you adapt to every song and the co-singer so very well. Kudos!!

pradeep,

i stumbled on your audio blog. pretty cool i shud say. very good singing on swasathin thalam. just a suggestion. when u doubled the voices it sounds better than the other version. however, u seemed to have panned both voices on the left and right sides exclusively. is that intentional? it kinda threw me off. but the rendition is awesome.
