Anuragamananda-A Malayalam Ghazal from Anyar

Ramesh Narayan started his film debut as a music director with the film Garshom. This film had the terrific song Parayaan Maranna which was rendered by Hariharan. Raveendran master once told me about how he came to know Ramesh Narayan. He had already heard his trademark "Tilang Raag" used by Rameshji for the above song and was really impressed. Then out of the blue Rameshji called him up one day and described his love for Raveendran's songs! And now it's left for a few some like Ramesh Narayan and M.G Radhakrishnan to carry on doing classical based songs in films after Raveendran Master's early demise. Rameshji has composed many classics like "Oru Naru Pushpamai", "Chanjadi Adi" etc. A student of Pandit Jasraj, he was asked by Jasraj to popularise Hindustani Music in Kerala. He is a very popular classical vocalist in Kerala other than a being music director. I had the good fortune of singing in his latest film Arunam which is yet to be released!
I present a terrific song from the film "Anyar" which is set in the ghazal mood. K.J Yesudas has already made this song a nostalgic one. The song was also marked by remarkable choreography in the film. A difficult song to sing, I have tried my best. The raga of this song was also one of the favorites of the late Raveendran Master!

Pradipettaa, right from the aalaap, your version is good. Yesudas, even at this age has rendered this song very beautifully. Please do post more ghazals (original Urdu ones). I remember seeing your ghazal performance in ACV a few weeks back.

Finally you have given into my request to sing ghazals. A very tough song indeed. I have not heard heard the original. Very good job Pradip. Enjoyed it thoroughly. We need you to set an example for the rest of the audiobloggers like me, Jo and others to challenge ourselves with tough compositions and share here. Divya, Swati, Vidyu, vidya are already doing some similar songs. Nice to hear all of you ppl.

I have not heard any one singing this song on stage including yesudas. You have sung this extremely well. And what a voice you have to match your singing.Rameshnarayan is an unsung genius. He will soo take over the mantle of ravindran if malayalam film music survives!

Terrific, awesome, powerful,.....well all these words are small to describe your singing. Just let me say this. You are my best singer of malayalam and tamil songs in the south now in terms of voice, expression and versatality. (hindi, no challenge for you:-) anyway!)

The depth and sweetness of voice you have demonstrated reminds me of the song "vidatharu" by yesudas tuned by Raveendran from "Ente Nandinikutty". Please sing this song too pradeep. You have so much of depth and talent and still lesser mortals make merry why?

Yadu, Narayanan, Tahseen, Murali thanks
Sreejith> Thanks..Well I heard it again and think there is no tension since the notes have been sung comfortably. maybe you felt the tension of the words as it ought to be...was sung i that fashion deliberately...udal veena yaakkki??? :-)
About the Raga, will ask Rameshji sometime when I speak to him...Think it is a mix..maybe nearer to mishra khamaj..with some pahadi element....not a pure raga.

pradeepetta,

ur rendition of anuragamananda is simply soul stirring...the perfect for setting the dim lit evening mood...just one observation...the background music while u sing seems to fade much into the background..am not a techie or a expert but make this observation as a plain listener...dont forget alila manjil nee...the one that i have requested...

warmest regards

Dear Pradeep,

Awesome. Really awesome!

I downloaded your "Anuragamaananda Sowgandhikam" with music by one and only Great Ramesh Narayanan.

I am spellbound, I am just blasted off. My soul is running with the music. This is a classic from Ramesh, and you have sung it just too well. Its running at my home, in my car, and most importantly in my mind. From Garshom to a long way to reach, Ramesh is just brilliant, and I would love to hear your sound giving that heavenly touch to the music. Awesome combination - just unbelievable.

By the way - Ramesh had released an album 'Geetagovindam', where the original lyrics (sanskrit) of Geetagovindam was tuned in Hindustani, and Ramesh narayanan and a lady named KR Shyama sang it. The cassette is undoubtedly the best album I ever heard in my life, and the female voice is just too good to be true. But I never heard of her after that. Loss of talent I would say.

I am really happy to have born in the same place of talents like you and Ramesh.

You guys are really the people who make this place "Gods own country"
