Deepak Dev -The New Wave!

It all started with Chronic Bachelor some years back. It was new life for Malayalam Cinema music and Deepak in particular, as he was on the verge of giving it all up by selling his Keyboard as “nothing exciting was happening in his career.” But, as fate would have it, every time he tried to sell off his keyboard, it came back to him, as the guys who bought it couldn’t cough up the money that they had promised him! He was trying to sell off his precious Keyboard for the umpteenth time, when Siddique, of Siddique-Lal fame spotted this bright talented youngster in a U.S tour and put him on the pathway to stardom. Thereafter he has not turned back. From the times when he used to play for A.R Rahman, Anu Malik, Sandeep Chowta, Vidyasagar and M.M Kreem he has transformed into a promising music director in Malayalam, and has given a new whiff of life for Malayalam film music with films like Chronic Bachelor, Symphony, Udayananu Tharam, Naran, Lion etc. He is also the main judge in the ongoing Super Singer show on Amrita T.V. Melody is his forte and simplicity in arrangements, is his signature. All his songs are marked by technical excellence in the quality of voices, tones and sibilance. The song Thumbi Kinnaram (my most favorite one from deepak) from Naran is an example to his skills. He is a very choosy music director and does full justice to whatever project he takes up. Deepak, Alphonse and M. Jayachandran are the present and future of Malayalam Cinema music!
I have tried to sing Swayamvara Chandrike, one of his melodious duets along with Meera Manohar. Meera, whose mother tongue is Tamil, and in spite of having difficulties in singing Malayalam, gladly accepted the challenge and spent hours in learning, recording and re-recording the song. The result is here to see. I do am amazed by her sincere efforts.

Pradip Ji,

"Mei marandhu pohnen'....got goosebumps!

Meera's top song till date IMHO. Your singing stand out Pradip...! Wow...Wow.

What a melody! The song that you like 'Thumbi Kinnaram' is also one of my favorites of recent times..!

Deepak Dev...What a talent. I am a big fan of melodies and every now and then I have arguments with my daughters who like the fast music..and recently they asked me.."Why Dad" why..can't you listen to songs like "Lajjavathiye" all the time.!

The list of movies of D.Dev....I've not seen anyone of them. Would like to see how he does the re-recording.

Thanks for a Great Melody Again..Pradip/Meera

Hi,
Very well sung duet. Good to see Meera back on the scene!
Deepak Dev is strong on Melody as well as crisp numbers, but one thing I find out of sync is that "electronic music" used as BGM stand out in most of his songs. (His forte as a key board player says it all!)

Hi Pradeep,

It was a cool re-rocording by you and meera. Your voice is majectic as usual. And good work by meera. It is really hard to sing in malayalam and very good attempt. Hope to hear more songs. Am Ramesh from trichur, but presently in UK.

I think this rendition is better than the original, clear, unbroken and mellifluous. Meera is more intelligible that than the original female voice and can be even better with a little bit of practice

Thanks for doing this

Further to my earlier comment,I think the song Swayamvara Chandrike seems to be inspired by the 1966 Hindi hit “Nainon me Badra Chaye” from the movie Mera Saaya whose music was composed by the legendry Madan Mohan.

Having said that, I would still say that Swayamvara Chandrike is a beautifully composed song, with outstanding lyrics.

Incidentally, this song seems to be in the Raga Keeravani. Any opinions?
