Illaiyaraja's Magic Continues!
Enough is enough! Well, that was my state of mind today, as I was determined to end my self inflicted voice ban after the sinus problem. I last opened my voice to sing on 7th of this month! What a relief it has been to get my act together once again even though I am not fully well. So I have not attempted to go full blast though. I decided to start with a loosner and though that this was the ideal song for a comeback. And what a song! Illiyaraja's songs are like wine; "the more older the better"! When I listened this song some time back, it did not create any impression as I thought..."hey I have heard this tune before". But later the song started to build up on me and it started a strong urge in me to learn and sing it. Well here is the result. This is already the season's biggest hit from the Mohanlal starrer "Rasatantram".

Am Aparna from Gujarat. Good to know that you are an AOL member.
I have seen M.A.S when I was a child.Excellent singing!Very good Blog.
Pradip:
First about your singing - superb. very clear soft rendition.
About the song:
This is the first time I am hearing it. "What a beautiful song, Ilaiyaraja has proved once again that he is the master of the melodies" - is not my response. Rather..
This is absolutely a run of the mill from his stable. Except for the first two catchy lines of the pallavi it is an complete rehash of countless similar songs that IR has come up with in tamil. Irritating tabla without any change in the nadai, unimaginative meter and to top it all - a lifeless orchestration. Sounds more like a nursery rhyme to me. I a sure he would have done this song in half an hour including the recording. No wonder it shows in the quality of the composition.
Thanks to Murali I was bit hesitant to comment the same. This song never conveys the “IR” touch anywhere. Even the picturization was artificial by two Bharath stars “ Bharat Gopi and Mohanlal”.
Pradeepetta nice knowing that you back with more action.Hope to hear the following songs soon
1.Nirangale padoo-Raveendran
2.Mounangale chanchaaduvaan-Jerry Amaldev
3.Oru kunju sooryane-Raveendran
4.Saandramaam mounathin-Raveendran
5.Nashta swargangale-Vidhyadharan
6.Champaka pushpa-MB Sreenivasan
7.Kannodu kannoram-Jerry Amaldev
8.Pokkuveyil ponnuruki-MB Sreenivasan.
9.Anuraagini itha- Johnson
10.Pathimey maranjathenthe-Johnson
Will put you another 10 as soon as I get access to your versions..:))
Pradeep smooth and silky rendition,
regarding IR composition its kind of heard it already feeling nothing new.
Just one word...FANTASTIC!!!
A hit song doesn't necessarily have to have something 'new'. I can understand why it's a hit, when you look at the other rubbish around. Good lyrics, good singing, hit film will make the audio a success.
Pradip,
You are lucky to have so much talent. Best of wishes.

Indiandoc> I am almost 98% fit now ! Seems that's enough to use my throat....so am back to my old ways.
No doubt I.R is a genius....(Some people do say that he was one but is not!) Well a genius is always a genius. Tendulkar may stop batting some years from now. He may also never be able to use the bat after 60. but he will always be remembered as a genius.
M.Kji> Thanks. The equaliser is back almost to normal.
Alexis> Thanks. Will be posting an English number soon!
Jo> Seeing you after a long gap!
Suji> Thanks. Get the original at cooltoad!
Divya, Indrajit, Aparna> Thanks for your comments.Aparna, nice to know that you are an AOL member too.
Murali> With all those mishaps you mentioned the song is still the favorite of the majority of the masses! They just do not mind if it's old or new. As kajan mentions when you take all the other crap that is being churned out by the awful so called composers today in Malayalam except a few, I.R songs are a huge relief since still it has melody and the contributions of the Ganagandharvan cannot be dismissed!
Kiran> I did not see the movie. I rarely see any malayalam movies these days. Am not at all interested.
You have given me a tough list to fulfill! I may not have the Karaoke tracks for many of the songs that you mentioned...maybe I should also start to think of an unplugged Tanpuru only rendering of these kind of songs!
Ganesh, Vidyu> Thanks!
Kajan> You are absolutely right. The general ublic does not care whether it's the same tune, new or old, whether recording quality is good or bad...Simplicity is the need today for many. Simple lyrics, uncomplicated singing all count.
Beautiful song - flawless rendition!
Vinesh
Thanks! am a frequent visitor to your Blog too...
Pradip JI,
I had tears in my eyes when I watched this movie a few weeks back here. I thought it was a wonderful song..about the 'Father'.
Now..when I heard you song..I had the same emotions. Especially the end of the 1st anupallavi.!
Thanks Pradip Ji for a great song.
Sorry about the second comment.
This song resembles the POTHI VECHA MALLIKAI MOTTU song that Murali has posted in his blog.
I wonder if they belong to the same raaga.
