Alliyambal Kadavil - An evergreen classic by K.J Yesudas!
I have wondered many times how this song became more and more popular right from the 60's through the 70's, 80's right into 2000's! It was one of the very few songs composed by the late music director "Job Master" for the film "Rosi". It is also said that this song was initially intended for another living legend Udayabhanu! But as fate would have it, he could not sing it due to some reasons, and the song went to Dasettan. This romantic number is special in that it has a western and modern touch to the orchestration and tune which makes it sound evergreen, generation after generation! It is equally appealing for the older generation and the younger generation alike. It has been on the lips of every romantic in college campuses all over Kerala since the 60's. The song is demanded by the audience again and again in musical programs, generation after generation. The song is immortal in the voice of Dr. K.J Yesudas one of the greatest and complete singers that India has produced! This is my attempt at rendering this song.

Pradip-ji nice song, every time I listen to you one thing that I notice is ur 'sur' you have sweet voice and pakka sur..enjoyed the song even though did not understand the meaning of it..
Pradeepetta,
Let me confess,i developed a feeling against you before that you were singing only hindi songs apart from the campus hit "Ennakkaruppin ezhazku",but after checking your blog and listening to the collection,i am getting auto-forced to listen more and more of your songs.
I really wonder about your time management. As a department head for technology,a full time musician,a succesfull internet blogger visiting most of the pages and dropping your comments, its really a great self-achivement playing the domain roles in various levels simultaniously.
Pradip:
The song "Alliyambal" is just great as you mentioned in the blog and
very well rendered (good orchestration).

It is a fantastic feeling to listen to this song.
Many, many thanks for providing this masterpiece!
maashe,
a wonderful song!!! thanks.. its amazing how simple yet elegant the composition is...
great song!!
Good effort Pradip. Even though I like the way you have sung it, I'm not happy with how it sounds rhythmically. The K. track I believe is missing a bass instrument (I think the original had a "Cello"), which plays staccato notes all the way through and it actually sets the rhythm and the modern feel to the song.
Prem, I think we ought not be too worried about the cello being not there in the track as after all it's a karaoke track and not the original. Also this is the best sounding karaoke of this song available. Let's feel happy that we get at least such tracks so that we can sing what we love to !Anyway thanks for pointing that out.
Pradip Sir,
SUPERB !! Romba azhaga paadi irukeenga.. I don't understand Malayalam much .. but its such a soother to my ears..
Adipoli as Anup puts it .
Cheers,
Barani
After listening to many of your songs, I believe you have exceptional creative ability in music. All your songs are over-the-top. Your duets with Meera and Swati are wonderful. They get equal credit with you for marvellous singing.
Felt something was missing from the song and thought I would share it with you. It by no means takes away the credit for the effort you take to bring this to us.
Request - With your access to various musicians, would like to hear some interviews with them, like the one you had with Gayatri, for Jo's Mpod.
yes, Prem.....I appreciate that very much. But regarding karaoke that's very true. There are very few ones which do carry the full mood of the original song. So we have to do with what's available. Regarding the interview, that was due to the effort of Jo. He is soon starting his own pod-casting. So I will let him know of your request. Let's see what can be done:-)
I think one of the reasons this song is popular is because of a slight adolescent innocence in the lyrics.
"thaamarap poo nee dhoore kaNdu mOhichchu
appOl thaaze njaan neendhi chennu poovu pottichu
thaNdidinja thaamara njaan koNdu vannappOL
nin kaviLil kaNdu mottoru thaamarakkaadu" - aha - simple and fantastic.
a song for all ages.
Very pleasant song...
Nice rendition!
...Sir Pradip...this song sounds sweet and romantic, i love it! ^_^
thanx!
cheers,
-kathy-
Sure pradip.... alliyambil kadavil is an evergreen song, and certainly one of the most romantic malayalam film songs ever composed. And your respect and regard for Yesudas is commendable. However, let me ask you a frank question. What do you think of Yesudas's singing of late. Don't you think he is but a shadow of his earlier self? Without the pitch corrector and all the marvels of modern recording technology, do you think one could listen to Yesudas without a shudder (at least inside on'es mind?) any more?
Of course, this is not to disrespect him at all. He is the greatest singer that Kerala has produced, and his songs will remain immortal and evergreen in our collective memory. But isn't it time to say that that the emperor ain't wearing any clothes?
